Regarding Humanae Vitae, Blessed Pope Paul VI said to the College of Cardinals: “In a matter of such importance it seems right that Catholics desire to follow one single law propounded authoritatively by the Church. So it seems advisable to recommend that for the present no one should arrogate to himself the right to take a stand differing from the norm now in force.”
This is a great article drawing the similarities between confusion of the years just prior to the promulgation of Humanae Vitae in 1968 and today’s issues raised by Amoris Laetitia.
This comparison shows that the Pope’s silence on the dubia will only make things worse. History is destined to be repeated unless we learn from it but maybe the progressives have. If so, no answer will ever be given and we will have to wait for another Paul VI to follow after a John XXIII.
