Why do Catholics make the Sign of the Cross before praying?

When a group of Christians from different denominations get together to pray, it is easy to figure out who is (or was) Catholic.

We would see that the Catholic faith is so deep and our devotions so full of meaning if we just slowed down and ponder them.   Consider the following: when you cross yourself with an open hand it signifies your complete openness to God; when you touch your head and chest you’re giving your whole mind and heart to God; and when you touch your shoulders you’re committing to serving him now and in the time to come.  It’s more than an act, it’s an oath.
