Reading Amoris Laetitia in Light of Trent

In the debate over Amoris Laetitia, many have not properly couched their comments and opinions accurately based on the level of authority of certain documents in relations to what is and isn’t infallible teaching.

Let’s always remember that within the range of religious authority established by the Church for certain documents neither Amoris Laetitia nor Familiaris Consortio are given the weight of infallible magisterial teachings.  As they represent the teachings and opinions of the Popes we listen and respect them but their ultimate authority comes from how they address and support dogmatic and infallibly declared doctrine.  That’s it.

Let us not forget the stories “When you give a mouse a cookie” and “When you give a moose a muffin.”  What will be asked for next?
